Alright ladies I need some reassurance!
So I know Ej will be a little delayed due to a month in the hospital, but, how delayed is okay?
I was talking to my MIL last night and she was asking what was new with EJ, and I didn't have anything to tell her.
The fact is, he hasn't started to do anything new since we were discharged November 18th. I mean he can sign "more" and that is awesome! But, he doesn't say any new words and he is still not crawling. He was talking and army crawling in October before our first hospitalization, and therefore, hasn't acquired any new milestones.
He is over ten months now, is it normal to still not be crawling? At what point should I be worried? He doesn't pull up yet but will stand holding on to something if I place him there. He can not get into a sitting position unless I put him there. He still says Mama, Dada, and night night but hasn't added any new words.
Maybe if he is still not crawling at one I should consider PT? I guess I don't know what to expect since he is SO different from Austin. I just worry so much and I need to learn to let it go and let him grow and learn at his own pace. It is just hard...
So any advice or any tips? Any late bloomers out there?? Or should I go ahead and talk to the Dr on monday about PT?
Thank you all, I appreciate all the support sooo much!!!

I don't have any advice, since I don't have any children - but I just wanted to say that I will be praying for you and EJ. I know this must be a very difficult time in motherhood ...
I don't have any children either, but wanted to let you know I am praying!!!
My daughter never 'crawled'! She rolled from one place to another and never really crawled. Then when she was a year old she started walking-slowly, but walking. She was always very healthy, had no developmental delays, she just didn't crawl. She didn't need to I guess. Talk to the dr., but try not to worry. All kids are different and he has been through a lot in his young life.
Jack didn't crawl until about 10 months and then walked at 11.5 same with Ricky. As for talking Jack still mainly babbles I mean some words are understandable in Mommy talk, but no real words. Does that make sense? I think for all the EJ has gone through he is doing just fine. Please don't worry more than you need to, I honestly don't believe he is that far behind what Jack was at that age.
Oh Honey,
In my opinion
Your little EJ is doing just fine..he is not behind at all...my little Jacq started walking at 10.5 months...and that was super super early for his age...He is 15 months now..and there are still some babies in our Mothers Group that are not walking.
My Jacq is still not saying any actual words..just alot of sounds..he says Mum Mum..and Daddy..but thats it..but you can see that he is trying..but not quite there yet.
And they say for boys...their motor skills seems to come first before their verbal...which kind of makes sense as boys are just so full of beans and are on the go all the time..and so inquisitive..well at least my jacq is. I really wouldn't worry at all...its best to try and not compare too much because that will just worry you more sweety. Just encourage him to walk..and talk..making it fun..and all will fall into place just nicely. xoxoxoxoxoxox
I totally agree with everyone so far. The thing I keep reading that is repeated constantly is "all babies develop at their own pace." That couldn't be more true! My Jack (I think we should start a club here!) zooms around everywhere crawling and pulls up on anything that will hold him, but he has yet to say anything more than babbletalk. And, he certainly doesn't sign even though I feel like I do it constantly to him.
As moms we are blessed with an instinct to know when something is wrong. I think you'll know if it's really to the point of concern, but like others have already said, don't make more worry for yourself than necessary. Asking your doctor certainly doesn't hurt anything either, especially if it gives you peace of mind. Remember he's been through a lot the last couple of months.
Sending more good thoughts and prayers! Hang in there. :)
I am not a mom yet, but do know that every child is SO different. I barely crawled but started walking right at 10 months.
My youngest sister did not walk until 15 months! Some children speak earlier and some later. He will get there.
My advice would be to talk to the doctor and see what he/she thinks.
Every baby does his or her own thing on his or her own time. L didn't crawl till 10 months and walked at 14. G crawled at 10 and just today started taking a step here and there. My girlfriend's little boy is like 5 weeks older than G and he started WALKING at 9 months!! So every child is different. He is just fine. I know it's easier said than done, but try not to worry:)
They are all different, but if you're momma's heart is worried...call the doctor and ask for a referral to OT or PT. They'll evaluate and tell you. I bet he's just fine, but don't really know! Praying for peace.
I think it's all been said :) Praying for you guys (as always)!
I'd say dont freak out. All babies develop at different rates and some babes NEVER crawl. Second babies are sometimes delayed because they are babied by the family....some are super fast because they see everyone else doing it and want to join in.
I did occupational therapy with my tiny tot because she refused to eat.....she is almost three years old and to this day has never eaten an entire jar of baby food! The therapy helped and I would highly suggest looking into it. But...calmly! Prayers and cyber hugs!

Elle - M is a very late physical bloomer, and I haven't been worried about it at all. However, we attribute most of his slowness to a cautious personality and not any medical reason. He army crawled until about 14 months and then he learned the regular crawl (but crawling isn't officially a milestone because some kids never do it). He wouldn't stand at a year, so he got a few sessions of PT to loosen up tight calves. He finally started walking at 17 months.
I know EJ's situation is very different, but I just wanted to let you know that "healthy" kids can take extra time to figure stuff out too. The fact that he learned to sign "more" is excellent!
I know it's hard - I was obsessed with "milestones" with Caleb for a while, but really had to learn to chill out.
It's normal to worry a little, we all do it. :) But, really I think EJ is doing terrific!!
Well I know this is WAYYYYY late, but I just wanted to reassure you that every child develops differently. Believe me...my daughter is now 7 months old and she's not even CLOSE to sitting up. (but I'm sure you read that over at my blog by now)....so hang in there and try try try not to compare your little precious boy to any other child. I know it's hard, but just try not to read stuff about development and what delays mean...sometimes Google is very bad for that reason!! You'll know when you need to take outside help - mother's intuition is a very real thing. Hang in there.
Oh - and thanks for sending me an etsy convo - I'll be getting back to you shortly!
